Howard Gladstone is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose melodies and lyrics weave a rich and vibrant tapestry within the tradition of Canadian storytelling and songcraft. Gladstone has established himself as a stalwart in the Toronto folk community, celebrated for his heartfelt compositions and his dedication to the craft of song.
Born and raised in Toronto, Gladstone was immersed in the city’s diverse musical landscape from a young age. His early influences ranged from the classic folk songs of the 1960s to the contemporary sounds of modern folk. This eclectic mix shaped his distinctive style, blending traditional folk with contemporary sensibilities with elements of Americana, roots, blues, jazz, and world music.
Gladstone’s live performances are intimate and engaging in nature. Whether performing solo or with his talented band, he creates a connection with his audience that transcends the stage. Hosting a monthly show at Toronto’s Tranzac club, Howard often shares the stage with other local artists, building and supporting artists, community, and audiences.
Howard Gladstone has recorded eight albums of original songs and stories since his debut (after a long career in business) in 2002. The song “Sunflowers Light The Room” from that album of the same name is often requested, resonating still with audiences. His 2017 album “Hourglass” tells the story in song of resilience and recovery from a potentially life-changing injury.
His 2020 album “The Promise,” released during the pandemic, continues with themes of hope and resilience. His latest release “Crazy Talk” continues his efforts to share the healing power of music and hope in troubled times.
Howard Gladstone’s first book, “Timepieces – Selected Lyrics” is now available.
